Uson defends Isabelle Duterte’s Malacañang photoshoot; netizens react

Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson defended presidential granddaughter Isabelle Duterte after netizens slammed her for conducting her photoshoot at the Malacañang Palace.

She took to Facebook to hit those who criticized President Rodrigo Duterte’s granddaughter as though she killed someone.

Uson echoed what Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said about seeing nothing wrong with Isabelle’s photoshoot at the Palace, while throwing shade at the issue involving former presidential sister Kris Aquino and the presidential choppers in 2016.

She added that whoever would have been in Isabelle’s shoes as the president’s grandchild would have likely done the same thing she did – take pictures for her upcoming debut.

Uson also urged people to understand what Isabelle, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s daughter, was feeling as a proud grandchild of the country’s leader and as someone who’s about to have her debut.

The avid Duterte supporter also noted how the public should allow the president’s family to enjoy this privilege given what he has done for the country.

She added that it was not a big deal for Isabelle to take photos in the Palace, considering how it was only a photoshoot and not the debut party itself.

She further said that it is likely only a Duterte supporter would understand the President’s joy in giving this privilege to allow his granddaughter to take photos in Malacañang.

“Kung suporter ka ng Pangulo at alam mo ang daming nagawa ng Pangulo para sa bayan mo can’tyou just understand his happiness to give this chance to his granddaughter?

Before concluding her post, Uson once again emphasized that Isabelle did not violate any law and slammed the recent controversies surrounding the Dengvaxia vaccine that was launched by the Aquino administration.

Wag na tayong maglokohan,” she said.

But what the netizens took issue with were those photos showing Isabelle posing in front of the Philippine coat of arms. They cited Executive Order No. 310 series of 2004, which states, “Except as otherwise provided by law or Presidential issuance, the Coat-of-Arms, Seal, and Flag of the President of the Philippines or of the Vice President of the Philippines shall be exclusively used to represent the President of the Philippines or the Vice President of the Philippines, respectively.”

The netizens also reacted to Uson’s defense of Isabelle.

“Weren’t you one of the people who protested and lambasted Aika Robredo’s Harvard admission?

#IPOKRITA,” she added in a separate tweet.

Other netizens echoed the same reaction.

President Duterte himself defended his granddaughter’s photoshoot as a “small matter.”

“Small matter, gamitin lang ‘yung Malacañang,” Duterte said during Senator Manny Pacquiao’s 39th birthday party in General Santos City on December 18.

“Wala naman ako doon. But even if I was there, itong granddaughter ko magpa-picture, lahat nga ng mga bisita pumupunta diyan, nagpapa-picture eh,” he added.
