“Small matter, gamitin lang ‘yung Malacañang,” the President said during the 39th birthday party of senator Manny Pacquiao in General Santos City.

“Wala naman ako doon. But even if I was there, itong granddaughter ko magpa-picture, lahat nga ng mga bisita pumupunta diyan, nagpapa-picture eh,” he added.

His granddaughter, Isabelle, is the daughter of his son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte with his former wife Lovelie Sangkola Sumera.

Netizens slammed Isabelle’s photoshoot for being “Imeldific,” for being insensitive to the suffering of the poor Filipinos, especially those in Marawi City, and for using the presidential seal as background of one of the photos.

Earlier, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he saw nothing wrong with the photoshoot.

“I don’t think it should be an issue. Gaya sila ng mga ordinaryong mga mamamayan na pwedeng magpicture sa Malacañang,” he told reporters on December 16.

Isabelle’s defense about how she submitted a request to the Malacañang got netizens reacting about how they should consider the Palace as the venue for their events. Someone even created a parody page called “Malacañang Events and Catering Services.”
