Blogger Thinking Pinoy apologized after posting fake news about Robredo’s portrait being sold on eBay

On June 21, Blogger Rey Joseph Nieto, also known as Thinking Pinoy (TP), issued an erratum about his post showing that Vice President Leni Robredo’s oil portrait being auctioned on eBay because she cannot afford to pay for its shipping fee to the Philippines.

“ERRATUM: I just found out that the photo I posted earlier today showing Robredo’s portrait allegedly being auctioned off on eBay turned out be derived from a satirical post. I apologize for the error,” TP wrote on his Facebook page.

“The OVP has been committing PR blunders left and right and I found it challenging to gauge the limits of the Robredo’s stupidity,” he added.

We scanned TP’s previous posts about Robredo and her portrait in oil and found this June 20 Facebook post of his, although it was merely captioned with a lot of “HAHAHAs.”

We can no longer find TP’s post about the Robredo portrait being sold on eBay because TP has removed it, so we headed to Google for help and found it.

Turned out it was picked up by notey.com, but clicking the link led us to Taho News, which took a screenshot of TP’s erroneous post.

Based on the screenshot, TP wrote: “She can send a daughter to Harvard, but she can’t send a portrait to the Philippines? Jusko ha, utang na loob!”

And the eBay description of Robredo’s portrait read: “For sale to highest bidder! This exquisite painting of Philippine Vice President Robredo was given as a gift for her attendance at a symphony gala in Los Angeles, California. She can’t afford to pay for shipping back to the Philippines so she is putting it up for sale. Proceeds to benefit her social media propaganda.”

The picture of Robredo having her photo taken with her portrait, which was painted by artist Rafael Maniago, is real, but what isn’t is the fact that the portrait was auctioned on eBay because she can’t pay for its shipping fees to the Philippines and that she will use the proceeds from the sale to fund her propaganda machine.

Robredo was a guest at the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) fundraising gala in LA on June 18 (Manila time).

Thinking Pinoy also issued an erratum on April 13 for identifying Sen. Franklin Drilon’s wife, Mila Genuino, as the Fil-Am civic leader Loida Nicolas-Lewis.
