Facebook user Jacqueline Osei shared an article to the Facebook group “DDS/Diehard Duterte Supporters” last December 30 with the headline “Trump, Duterte and Putin for an emergency meeting in Moscow.”
The article came from philstar.i-telecast.com, although it appeared to have from the Philippine Star. It claims that President Rodrigo Duterte and US President-elect Donald Trump are scheduled to go to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for an alleged emergency meeting.
Details of the meeting were not communicated to the media and that this closed-door meeting incited fear as the “three strong men” of the world meet.
Moreover, the article claimed that Duterte was set to leave on December 31, 2016 for the said meeting. However, Duterte was not reported to have left the country during the said date.
It is important to note that a few articles from philstar.i-telecast.com had already been busted by Meme Buster several times and it doesn’t come as a surprise that this particular article is also a made up story. Such hoaxes include Senator De Lima’s sister getting arrested in China for drug trafficking and getting the death penalty, new Thai King calling Duterte “my father,” millions of drug money found in former President Ramos’ house, and more.
The Facebook user who shared this added the caption “Share if you believe these are the world’s strongest presidents,” which gives of the impression that what this article was meant to do was to promote these three presidents as the strongest world leaders.
There has been no reported meeting between the three Presidents aside from Duterte and Putin’s first meeting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) last November 19, 2016.
