Recently, there has been news claiming that Caroline De Lima, sister of Senator Leila De Lima, has been sentenced to death in China after she was arrested in the said country due to drug trafficking.
This article had been spreading around Facebook through the page “Solid and Loyal DuterteCayetano for Federalism.” As of writing, the Facebook post has already garnered more than 1,700 likes, 219 comments and 1,641 shares.
It was also shared by a Facebook user to the page “President Rody Duterte Facebook Army,” which has earned 165 shared, as of writing.
According to the articles, Caroline and her Chinese accomplice Wei Maoju were sentenced to death by hanging. Aside from this, no other details were provided by the site.
It turned out, the articles were sourced from fake news site philstar.i-telecast.com.
Even before this news has broken out, it has already been proven that the earlier news of Caroline’s arrest in China for drug trafficking is a fake news. We already busted it with “Busted: News on De Lima’s sister being arrested in China for drug trafficking is fake!” This already cleared out that there hasn’t been any official news and confirmation about Caroline’s arrest due to drug trafficking.
The same fake news site philstar.i-telecast.com also made up a story about how the new Thai king calls President Rodrigo Duterte “my father,” which could imprison anyone spreading this kind of fake story about the Thai monarchy in Thailand for up to 15 years.
The website might appear to be a website by the newspaper The STAR at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it can be seen that the posts by this website are fake news.
