SC decision on Marcos burial is a ‘nightmare,’ says ex-CHR and Martial law victim Etta Rosales

According to former Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Etta Rosales, who was also a victim of Martial Law, the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is a “nightmare.”

The former Chairperson was arrested, convicted and abused by the military during the Martial Law, which is why she considers the decision of the Supreme Court to allow a hero’s burial for the late president a “nightmare.”

She is not the least bit convinced of the SC’s argument that the decision was only for a civil case submitted and that it has no final conviction on any criminal cases of the late Marcos.

“Betrayal siya kasi binalewala niya ang tinig ng mamamayan, yun yung EDSA. Binalewala niya yung legal na expression, ito yung batas. This is the fundamental law of the land at ito yung nilaban namin,” Rosales said.

Rosales is also doubtful of Imee Marcos’ statement that their family has already apologized to the victims of Martial Law.

Imee had previously stated, “Iba kasi yung sinasabi nila, gusto nila admission of guilt tantamount to a criminal offense, eh parang ang labo naman nun.”

Rosales points out that how can the victims of Martial Law possibly forgive if there is no admission of guilt from the Marcoses. “San yung paghihilom? Ang makikinabang lamang dito sa pagbury ni Marcos dito sa Libingan eh yung pamilya ni Marcos.”

She also believes that the grand plan of the Marcoses is to return to the Malacañang, especially since they are making their close relations to the President apparent. Furthermore, Duterte has even introduced former Senator Bongbong Marcos as his vice president in his state visit to China, once he wins over the protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

Rosales wonders why they are so certain that Bongbong will win over Vice President Leni Robredo when she did not rig the electoral race.

Rosales and other petitioners vow that they will not give up the fight against the decision of the Supreme Court on the burial of Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.
