Netizen slams tourism chief Teo for empty DOT website’s marketing campaign page

Facebook user Jaison Yang hits Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo for blaming Vice President Leni Robredo for the difficulty in selling the Philippines to tourists when the Department of Tourism’s web page for marketing campaigns is empty.

“Instead of blaming the VP, why don’t you check your own backyard??? You are having a hard time selling the PH because there’s nothing in your Tourism marketing campaigns!!!! I just checked the website now!!!” Yang wrote in his Facebook post.

He also posted two screenshots of the empty web page meant to list down the tourism department’s marketing campaign.

As of writing, his post has gained almost 350 shares and over 700 reactions.

Teo made a statement on March 22 asking Vice President Leni Robredo and the media to “tone down” reports about the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines. She said it is difficult to sell the Philippines due to the negative reports on extrajudicial killings.

This was the tourism chief’s reaction to Robredo’s video message to the UN on the alleged abuses of the Philippine National Police, such as the alleged “palit-ulo” scheme and the warrantless searches they conducted in Metro Manila’s poor communities.

We checked DOT’s website and the supposed page for tourism marketing campaigns and it is indeed empty.

But we also found out that the Tourism Promotions Board headed by actor Cesar Montano, who recently got a complaint filed against him by TPB employees, is also supposed to be responsible for the “integrated domestic and international promotions and marketing program” for the DOT, as per its mandate. The TPB is an organization under the supervision of the tourism chief.

According to the TPB employees’ complaint against Montano, they accused him of mismanaging the tourism board, approving multimillion sponsorships without proper vetting from TPB offices, and refusing to attend a board meeting that could have approved the organization’s work program for 2017. They also accused him of rarely reporting to Teo.
