According to Okd2.com, Bacolod City ranked 8th among the best cities in the world to live in, based on a list by the travel review website, TripAdvisor.
Bacolod City reached the 8th spot in the top 20 list that was voted by over 100,000 travelers and tourists in 2016. There were several factors that were considered by TripAdvisor to consider the city’s quality of life.
Vienna, Austria topped the list, followed by Auckland, New Zealand; Vancouver, Canada; Geneva, Switzerland; and Amsterdam, Netherlands to round up the top 5. The cities of Berlin, Germany ranked sixth followed by Ottawa, Canada, then by Bacolod City, Philippines. The cities of Copenhagen, Denmark and Sydney, Australia rounded up the top 10 best cities to live in.
But we could not find TripAdvisor’s list of best cities to live in. What we found instead were lists of the world’s top destinations and the best beaches for 2017.
Further research led us to this March 14 Business Insider article, “The 23 cities with the best quality of life in the world.” It has the same exact list as the one used by Okd2.com. However, the list was not made by TripAdvisor, as per Okd2.com’s claim, but by Mercer, one of the biggest HR consultancy firms in the world. The list was called the “Quality of Living Index,” which considers the cities with the best quality of life.
After reading the article from Business Insider, it is obvious that Okd2 copied a huge chunk of this article, including the factors used to evaluate the cities and even the description of each city. Okd2 just tweaked the list by re-arranging the rankings of the cities, removing #2 Zurich, Switzerland from the list, and inserting Bacolod City in 8th place when it’s supposed to be Geneva, Switzerland.
It is obvious that Okd2.com is sticking to its old formula of making up stories, mixing real news with fake news. It has published fake stories, such as VP vote recount being scheduled on May 27, Jim Paredes hating President Duterte since their college days, NPA commander and 121 others surrendering in Bukidnon, and more.
