Former APO member and activist Jim Paredes is accused of hating President Rodrigo Duterte “since college” by an article that has been picked up by several blogs and shared by Duterte fan pages on Facebook, gaining thousands of shares.
Pages like “Showbiz Government,” “Newsinfolearn,” and “Hidden Truth PH” have posts that gained over 1,400 to 2,400 shares.
Other pages also shared the article, such as “President Duterte Supporters,” “Rodrigo Duterte ‘Disais,’” and “Bring back the glory of our nation. Ferdinand Marcos JR for President.”
While the article was picked up by blogs like ltrendingnews.com, dailytopmedia.com, pinoythinking.online, socialmediaph.info, and publictrending.net, it seemed to be sourced from okd2.com.
The article claimed that Duterte’s former San Beda classmate and roommate, Atty. Rafael Buencamino, said in a Radyo Agong interview on February 24 that Paredes “disliked” Duterte since college. He said that it started when Paredes lost to the President during an inter-college Extemporaneous Speaking contest in 1971, Duterte’s last year in San Beda.
The feud between Duterte and Paredes was said to have worsened when Paresdes was rejected by Duterte’s female classmate during a courtship. Buencamino claimed that the APO singer thought Duterte spoke badly of him, hence the girl’s rejection.
Another quote from Buencamino said: “I think Paredes’ life is full of failures and disappointments in politics that’s why he is jealous especially to the people who beat him earlier. Hindi niya rin matanggap noon na naging Mayor si Rody, lalo pa ngayong naging Presidente. E sya natalo nong tumakbong Brgy. Kapitan sa kanila.”
However, given Okd2.com’s tendency to make up stories, many of which we’ve busted, there are a lot of things to be suspicious about in this story.
First up, we could not find a reference to that Radyo Agong interview with Buencamino.
Second, we could not find any news report about a “Rafael Buencamino,” who used to be Duterte’s classmate and roommate.
Third, Paredes himself denied ever being in the same extemporaneous contest as Duterte, who is 6 years older than him, which meant they could not have possibly met during a college contest.
In his Twitter account, Paredes said:
“On #BuangNews that Digong beat me in an extemporaneous contest. I am 65. He is past 70. How could we have been on the same match? FAKE NEWS”

Okd2.com has also made up stories about Smartmatic threatening LP and Comelec with the truth, 121 NPA rebels surrendering in Bukidnon recently, Trump seeking Duterte’s advice in dealing with China, Arturo Lascanas’ cousin saying the alleged DDS leader was paid to testify against Duterte, and more.
To clarify things, Paredes did not lose to Duterte during a college contest. It was merely made up by the fake news site to attempt to explain Paredes’ opposition to the President.
