Social media users reacted to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar telling lawmakers on August 15 that a staff member of the Philippine News Agency did not know the logo of the Department of Labor and Employment, hence the use of the wrong logo after using Google to search for DOLE logos.

The staff, a retriever of statements and press releases used the wrong thumbnail in a write-up about labor pay rules on the PNA site.

Andanar said the editor assigned to approve the article did not bother to double check the thumbnail used for the write-up.
“‘Yung editor, hindi dinobol check, Inaprubahan. Nakakahiya po ang nangyari,” he said.
But Andanar said that PNA editors were trained, some were even sent abroad for it.
Rappler’s Bea Cupin quoted him saying, “Hindi kami nagkulang.”
Andanar explains that’s why he poured effort into improving PNA. He says editors underwent training, some abroad. “Hindi kami nagkulang.”

The PNA was hit for using the logo of Dole, a pineapple processing company, instead of the official logo of DOLE.
Andanar then lamented over how the PNA is one of the most neglected government agencies.
“Sa lahat ng ahensya ng gobyerno, ang Philippine News Agency ang pinakanapabayaang ahensya ng gobyerno,” he said.
“It was on the ground… until now, you can see ‘yung mga computers namin Pentium pa, butas-butas ang kisame, and most of our employees use their own laptops,” he added.
On the recent blunders in PNA, Andanar said: “Bakit napapansin na ang PNA ngayon? Sapagkat binabasa na ang PNA ngayon.”
However, Andaanar’s explanation was still not well received by some netizens.
@desamting brought up the matter of copyright issue when it comes to using images found on Google image results.
“May question din pala of copyright ito, no. We can’t just Google images and use whatever comes up,” he tweeted.

He was later corrected that it’s not copyright, but trademark, considering that the PNA staff used a company logo.
@ohlistic @gmanews @Ted_Cordero trademark, actually, since this is a company logo 😀

@puretuts said that it is rather easy to identify the official DOLE logo.
“Tried to google DOLE very clear yung Dept of Labor and Employment. D*mn PNA,” he tweeted.

As for Andanar commenting on the level of attention that the PNA is getting, @arnoldpadilla said, “Andanar says that PH News Agency (PNA) now has attention it does not have before. True, but for the wrong reasons.”

Some Facebook users also expressed their opinion on Andanar’s recent revelation about the DOLE logo blunder.
In the comments section of GMA News’ Facebook post about the story, Facebook users slammed the incompetent staff and editor and suggested that the government agency hire people who are more capable.
