Robredo thanks Uson for including her in Twitter poll for potential DSWD sec replacement

Vice President Leni Robredo thanked Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson for her “show of support” in including her in the latter’s Twitter poll for the next Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary.

Uson conducted a Twitter poll on August 17 after the Court of Appointments rejected the appointment of DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo. The poll closed with “Leni” getting 81% of the 16,432 votes. She won over the other options in the poll, which included DSWD Asec. Lorraine Badoy and another rumored DSWD Secretary replacement Monica Prieto-Teodoro, and the last option, “Others (name pls).”

Robredo expressed her surprise over her inclusion in the poll during her Sunday radio program “BISErbisyong Leni” on RMN-dzXL 558 kHz.

“Nagpapasalamat na din tayo kay Asec. Mocha Uson, na pagpapakita siguro na may tiwala na puwede tayong humawak ng ganiyang kabigat na puwesto,” Robredo said on August 20.

Robredo said she was even more thankful towards those who voted for her in the Twitter poll.

“Mas malaki sigurong pagpapasalamat sa mga nagpahayag na ako ‘yung preference nila, kasi pagpapakita na tinitiwalaan tayo sa ganitong larangan,” she added.

Robredo used to be the chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) but she resigned last December 4 after she was asked via text to desist from attending meetings.

With Robredo winning her Twitter poll, Uson took to Facebook to say that Robredo was not leading the poll at all until some “poser accounts” retweeted it and that was when the Vice President rose to the top. Uson then pointed out the organized efforts of the Yellows on Twitter.

“Ganito po sila ka-organize sa Twitter. Doon mo talaga malalaman na united ang mga dilawan upang labanan at idiscredit ang ating pamahalaan,” Uson said.

When asked about the result of Uson’s poll, Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said appointing Robredo as the next DSWD secretary may be a “difficult choice.”

“I’m not saying ‘no’ for Leni, I’m just saying that it seems it will be a difficult choice,” Abella told the press in Malacañang on August 18.

“For the plain and simple reason that, for example, she has already resigned (from a Cabinet post),” Abella added.

“I’m sure the President has other ways of measuring a candidate’s capability aside from surveys,” Abella further said.
