Busted: Hontiveros to go on hunger strike over hero’s burial for Marcos? Hoax alert!

Marcos and Duterte fan pages on Facebook have been sharing an article claiming that Senator Risa Hontiveros is planning to go on a hunger strike to protest the Supreme Court’s decision on the hero’s burial for the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

The Marcos fan page Kilusang Bagong Lipunan even dared Hontiveros, complete with a round-the-clock coverage of her supposed hunger strike.

“OK we dare you Risa mag hunger strike ka don’t even drink water and we should be monitor 24/7 with live coverage. Pag tumagal 3 days or more we salute you again no water pure hunger strike ang gagawin mo wag puro daldal we will watch you. Diyan naming mapapatunayan pinaglalaban mo agree ba kayo mga ka DDS/BBM loyal supporter,” the fan page wrote in its caption.

The article published on November 8 by Okd2 claimed that the senator felt devastated by the SC’s decision and repeated how Hontiveros said the decision “broke our hearts.” It also repeated Hontiveros’ official statement about Marcos’ burial.

In the latter part, though, the article added that one of Hontiveros’ top aides said that the senator is planning to start a “hunger strike in front of the SC building starting Saturday.

The aide was even quoted saying, “Nabanggit nya sa amin sukdulang mag hunger strike siya para lamang i-reverse ng SC ang ruling laban sa paglilibing kay Marcos sa LNB.” The aide supposedly claimed that other activists are also planning to participate in the same protest on Saturday.

But it seems like the supposed “aide” only spoke to Okd2, seeing as how this was not covered by any other news outlet. And Okd2 is not exactly the most credible source of breaking news when we have busted its hoax reports over and over again.

Take note, Okd2 has a disclaimer that they “cannot guarantee the legitimacy of some of the information contributed to us.” They even encouraged their readers in doubt to do additional research. Moreover, its “About” page also has another disclaimer stating that “in very rare cases, Okd2.com may publish some fiction to entertain our readers.”

Since their claim about Hontiveros’ planned hunger strike cannot be verified by other sources, this report could easily be another hoax from the site.

Meme Buster has busted several fake articles from Okd2 lately, including their articles about PNP buying rifles from Russia or Israel, CBCP refusing to donate a small drug rehab center, Hontiveros filing a bill to increase the pay of rallyists and protesters, Erap giving VP Leni Robredo a 2/10 rating, and more.

If you encounter articles from Okd2, please follow its own advice to its readers and research to verify its claims first.
