There have been a few fake articles floating online about the supposed relationship between US President Donald Trump and President Rodrigo Duterte. Stories about Trump calling Duterte first among all the world leaders after he won the US election, Trump calling himself, Duterte and Russian President Vladimir Putin as “the best three” horses, and more were published, probably to paint the picture that both recently elected leaders are “close.”

This time, Trump has allegedly come to Duterte’s defense once more as he told the European Union not to “overstep” their mandate after the latter called for the release of Senator Leila De Lima from prison.

The source of the story, cnnnews-channel.com, claimed that Trump made this statement: “Don’t overstep your mandates, Philippines is a sovereign nation with an autonomous government.”
But a quick check on the direct quote included in cnnnews-channel.com’s report proved that it was made up. The other sites that carried the statement were fake news sites and support pages for Duterte on Facebook.
Meme Buster also busted hoaxes from cnnnews-channel.com, such as the stories about Saudi Arabians wanting Duterte to be their next king, Ivanka Trump advising Filipinos about supporting Duterte, denial of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s US visa application, and more.
