Sending PH Coast Guard to China is like sending PNP antidrug team for training by drug lords – Golez

Former national security adviser Roilo Golez obviously did not approve of the Philippines’ move to send Coast Guard personnel to China for training and his reaction on Facebook just went viral.
“Sending our Coast Guard personnel for training by China Coast Guard is like sending PNP antidrug personnel for training by drug lords,” Golez wrote on Facebook, complete with three angry emoticons.

Golez then went on to enumerate just how ironic the Philippine Coast Guard’s move is when it is the China Coast Guard that is used to “invade,” “seize” and “block” Philippine territories.
“We must not forget that the China Coast Guard is China’s primary arm of coercion and invasion in our West Philippine Sea. China Coast Guard ships were used to seize Scarborough Shoal and are still there. They are the ones blockading Ayungin Shoal and guarding Recto Bank,” he added.

On Twitter, he called the move “ridiculous.”

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sent 20 officers to China for training under the Chinese Coast Guard from May 4-20 in Ningbo City, Zheijang province.

Ten of the officers are PCG legal officers who are going to attend the China-Philippine Coast Guard Legal Affairs seminar. The other ten are set to attend the Junior Officers Law Enforcement Training Course.

The training will cover topics such as maritime law enforcement, communication, and search and rescue.

PCG spokesperson Commander Armand Balilo said that the training is said to be in accordance with President Duterte’s mandate to improve and strengthen PH-China cooperation. He added that it will also improve the friendship and trust between the two Asian countries amid the maritime row over the South China Sea and West Philippine Sea.
