Unlike what Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said earlier, there was no shabu session and altercation when the stabbing incident happened inside Building 14 of the New Bilibid Prison on Wednesday morning.
This is what Edgar Arriba, legal counsel of injured inmate Jaybee Sebastian, said on Wednesday afternoon. Sebastian was among the three high profile inmates who were hurt in the incident, along with Peter Co and Vicente Sy, while Tony Co was killed.
Based on GMA News reporter Chino Gaston’s series of tweets, Sebastian told his lawyer that they did not have a pot session or engage in an altercation. They were attacked in the mess hall of Building 14 while watching TV, adding that it was an unprovoked attack.

According to a tweet by DZBB, Arriba said that Sebastian was attacked from behind, adding that his client was the target in the stabbing incident.
The lawyer also said that Sebastian suffered from multiple stab wounds, including one near his heart. The inmate reportedly had stab wounds in his arms as he defended himself from the knife-wielding attackers.
Doctors at Muntinlupa Medical Center who treated the inmates assessed that the wounds inflicted by an ice pick type of weapon “were meant to kill,” Gaston tweeted.
Arriba also said that Sebastian is now willing to talk about his knowledge of the illegal drug trade in Bilibid, but only with President Rodrigo Duterte.
In his interview with GMA News TV’s GRT, Arriba said that the stabbing incident showed that there is a threat to his client’s life.
“Napakarami niyang alam, Ayaw niyang magsalita dahil lalong manganganib ang buhay niya,” the lawyer said.
