Busted: ‘Duterte took 5 months to kill Hapilon, we needed one day to kill Marwan’? Aquino did not say this!

Netizens are slamming former President Benigno Aquino III for allegedly comparing how it only took the Special Action Forces (SAF) to kill Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Abdhir, alias Marwan, during his administration while it took the government troops five months to kill terrorist Isnilon Hapilon during the Duterte administration.

However, the story came from the dubious blog of okd2.com. If only the netizens traced the story back to the said blog, they would find out that it was categorized as satire. Okd2.com made up a story about how Aquino allegedly jeered President Rodrigo Duterte for taking five months to kill Hapilon and the Maute brothers.

Aquino was even quoted saying the following statements:

  1. “Bakit mo kailangan ng limang buwan para lang ma-neutralize ang mga terorista gayong pwede namang gawin yon ng isang lingo? I asked before we did it with Marwan in just one day without destroying the whole city.”
  2. “Sisirain moa ng buong syudad para lang paalisin ang ilang tao? I’m not convinced.”
  3. “Yong sinasabi nilang mahigit 800 na teroristang namatay, mukhang wala namang bangkay na pinakita. Dun sa Marwan operation may ebidensya, marami tayong bangkay na pinakita.”

The SAF conducted an operation called Oplan Exodus on January 25, 2015 at Mamasapano in Maguindanao to capture or kill Marwan, other Malaysian terrorists, or the officials of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

The blog further noted that Aquino said President Duterte created a human disaster, referring to the destruction in Marawi City.

The statements above were, of course, made up by the blog for their satirical article. However, it was still taken by many netizens as a genuine story, hence the comments lambasting Aquino.

The story was shared by Facebook page “Philippine News Courier” and a netizen posted it on “Duterte Worldwide Supporters.”

Those who commented on the said posts hit Aquino for his alleged remarks.

If only these netizens tried to verify the statements allegedly uttered by Aquino in the okd2.com article, if they failed to spot the “Humor & Satire” category marked in the article, they would have known that the statements were only made up by the blog.

They could have also read Okd2’s About page and see that it also publishes satirical articles.

Okd2.com has been quite notorious in publishing fake and satirical stories, such as about a Chinese ship delivering 310,000 metric tons of construction materials for Marawi, the CBCP condemning the brutal killings of Hapilon and Omar Maute, adult Betamax tapes being found in Dagupan Cathedral, and former APO singer Jim Paredes hating Duterte since college, among others.
