Busted: FB page wishes hostaged Catholic priest ‘mapugutan ka sana ng ulo’ after wrongly assuming he staged anti-Duterte rally

Facebook page “Batangueños Duterte-Cayetano – Independent Volunteer Group” cursed a Catholic priest to die in the hands of the local terrorists Maute group after assuming that he once held a rally calling for President Rodrigo Duterte’s resignation.

The Duterte-Cayetano support page posted two photos of a bearded man along with this caption:

“HULI KA BALBON!!!!!!! WALANG LIHIM NA D NABUBUNYAG!!!! XA PO UN KATOLIKONG PARI NA VERY VOCAL AT SUMAMA SA RALLY NA ME GAMET NA MEGAPHONE NA PINAG RI RESIGN ANG PANGULONG DUTERTE!!!!! The people behind the page are wishing that the priest be beheaded after holding an anti-Duterte rally. So, anyone who opposes Duterte deserves to be beheaded? Is this what the page is getting at?

With over 6,000 shares, as of writing, Facebook page “Imong Kagaral” also used the same two sets of photos and captioned them with this:

“PARI NA BIHAG KUNO NG MGA MAUTE ISA SA MGA NANANAWAGAN NA RESIGN DUTERTE,, NAGTATAKA LANG AKO HA YUNG ORDINARYONG MGA KRISTYANO PINUPUGUTAN NG MGA MAUTE PERO ITONG PARI NA ITO MAY GANA PANG MANAWAGAN NA IBIGAY LAHAT NG KAHILINGAN NG MGA MAUTE!! HINDI KAYA MAGKASABWAT ITONG PARING ITO AT MAUTE KASAMA MGA KULTONG DILAW???”

Upon closer look, Meme Buster found out that the bearded men in the two photos are actually two different men. The man holding a megaphone beside a “Du30 Resign Now Na!!!” banner is Alexander Katigbak.

And these photos that he uploaded on his own Facebook page are proof enough that it was him who staged an Duterte resign now rally.

Katigbak actually called for the Alay Lakad on February 1 via his Facebook page to call for the President’s resignation.

The photo of Katigbak holding a megaphone beside the Duterte Resign banner circulated on Facebook in February.

And the other bearded man in the photos used by the Facebook pages above is the Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Teresito “Chito” Suganob from the Prelature of St. Mary, who was taken hostaged by the Maute Group in Marawi City, along with more than 200 hostages.

It is true that Suganob appealed to Duterte via a video posted by the Facebook page “Bisaya News” to give the terrorists what they are asking for.

“Mr. President, we are in the midst of this war. We are asking your help to please give what your enemies are asking for,” the priest said.

He added that he enemies are asking the President to withdraw the “forces away from Lanao del Sur and Marawi City and to stop the airstrikes, your air attacks and to stop the canyon.”

“We want to live another day, we want to live another month, we want to live a few years. And in your generosity, Mr. President, in your heart, we know you can make something,” Suganob said in the video.

Facebook user Thin Tine posted a clarification about how different the two bearded men are, along with a collage of their photos.

Last May 30, a video was posted in social media showing the abducted priest in Marawi, Rev. Fr. Chito Soganub asking President Duterte to let the Military peacefully leave the city. Just some hours later, malicious posts and comments have been bombarded by numerous netizens.

Most of them saying awful judgments. But wait, he was CAPTIVE along with others whom he wants to protect! This was something some impulsive netizens did not consider.

But it didn’t end there, they have posted a picture of a man (whom was later on discovered to be ALEXANDER KATIGBAK, an active critic of Pres. Duterte in social media) *Please click the link that follows to know more about him. Click Here!
whom they MISLEADINGLY ASSOCIATE AS father chito, which in turn creates further confusion and damage most specially to the family of our dear priest.

But to everyone who personally knows Fr. Chito knows how clearly it wasn’t him who was on the circulating pictures. Yes, it can’t be denied that they have some similarities but these similarities apparently were used by wicked people to discredit him and make an issue out of the chaos.

  1. CHITO is our beloved priest who promotes dialogue of life and faith between Muslims and Christians in Marawi City! He is not that someone you spread him to be.

At this very moment he needs our SINCERE PRAYERS NOT IRRATIONAL JUDGMENTS.

Please, let us be instruments of PEACE and NOT OF CHAOS! Let us pray for Marawi, let us pray for Mindanao!

(Kindly look at the photo. The two photos in the upper part are the faces of Mr. Alexander Katigbak. The two on the lower one are the faces of Fr. Chito)
