Busted: Duterte DID not ban Steve Harvey from entering PH!

President Rodrigo Duterte allegedly banned Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey from entering the Philippines.

Actually, several websites carried the news and it was even shared on Facebook.

All websites, though, carried exactly the same content, from start to finish.

According to these sites, Duterte announced his ban on Harvey after his major mistake in announcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the Miss Universe 2015 when the award was supposed to go to Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Duterte said this ban is necessary as the beauty pageant’s organizers insisted on maintaining Harvey as the host.

It also noted how President Duterte told tourism minister, referring to Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, how he did not like Harvey hosting the competition, even citing Inquirer as the source of the report. This part is true, though, as Inquirer did report on how Duterte is not keen on Harvey as Miss Universe 2016 host.

But the article even attributed this statement to Duterte:

“Now the organizers are telling me they have a 5-year contract with Harvey and they could not replace him. Okay I have no problem with that. I have banned him from entering the Philippines. So he may stay outside the country and host the event from there while contestants are in here.”

However, Duterte did not make such a statement. He did not ban Harvey from entering the Philippines. Even if he did not like the host, Harvey’s existing 5-year contract with Miss Universe will hold and that is what Teo told him. But Teo added that the host will be partnered with a Filipina co-host, “probably one from the media,” she said.

As of November, the Department of Tourism has confirmed that Harvey will be hosting the Miss Universe 2017 coronation night on January 30, 2017 at Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

Teo also said that despite his opposition to the host, Duterte is happy that Miss Universe 2017 will be hosted in the Philippines.

“He (Duterte) is happy. Sabi niya sa akin, o yung Miss Universe ha tuloy na tuloy na… everybody is happy,” she said.
