Busted: Did ‘prophet’ predict Duterte 3 years ago? Nope, ‘vague’ prediction was made in 2009

Christian self-styled prophet Cindy Jacobs claimed to have made a prediction for the Philippines and several blogs interpreted it to mean that she predicted the election of President Rodrigo Duterte “three years ago.”

In fact, the story “Shocking Truth: Duterte Is Predicted 3 Years Ago. Watch!” has been shared thousands of times already by Duterte and Marcos fan pages on Facebook. These include fan pages such as “President Duterte Worldwide Supporters,” “SNP – Social News Philippines,” “President Duterte Supporters,” “Tulfo News,” and “Marcos Warriors,” among others.

Notice also the similarities in their captions, which basically said this:

“WATCH: ITO ANG PANUNAY NA HINDING HINDI MA E EMPEACH SI TATAY DIGONG DAHIL NAKITA NA SA HINAHARAP KUNG ANO ANG KAHIHINATNAN NG KANYANG ADMINISTRATION,PANOORIN PO NINYO MGA KA DDS AT E SHARE ANG KAKAIBANG PREDICTION KAY TATAY DIGONG”

The story was published by blogs such as pinoytribune.com, pinoythinking.online, andnewsmediaph.com.

We clicked on one of the blogs and found an almost three-minute YouTube video, showing a clip of Jacobs “Prophecy for Philippines.” Jacobs, who founded Generals International with her husband Mike Jacobs, said:

“I want you to pray. The next two years, the Lord is showing me, are going to be extremely significant for the Philippines. Either it’s going to go on to greatness, it’s going to be that transformed nation, or, I see that there’s going to be some troubled times.

“So pray, pray, pray. I know that if you’re already praying, this is a time that God is going to pull down the spirit of corruption and God is going to release the spirit of truth and righteousness into this nation because righteousness exalts a nation. The Lord has given many promises for the Philippines. I mean, the Philippines is going to be one of the wealthiest nations on the earth.

“The spirit of poverty will be broken so rise up even though you know it’s terrible and everywhere you look around is devastation. Out of this darkness is going to become a transformation movement that will be shown and modeled around the world, says the Lord.”

Jacobs further said that in the next elections, “God is gonna move in a massive way. The spirit of corruption will be broken.”

So, the blogs and team that edited the YouTube video claimed that Jacobs’ prediction was made three years ago and that Duterte fit the bill.

However, further research into when Jacobs talked about her prophecy for the Philippines showed that it was actually in 2009, not 2014 if it was three years ago from today, as claimed by the blogs and YouTube clip editors.

In fact, here’s a YouTube clip of the same prophecy uploaded user “VillanuevaBroEddie” on March 29, 2009.

Several articles were also written about that prophecy, which Jacobs apparently delivered on Pat Robertson’s “700 Club” TV program.

Jacob’s prophecy reportedly went viral in 2013 after the Philippines was hit by Typhoon Yolanda. However, Next Media Animation, a Taiwanese animation news company, mocked the prophet’s “vague” predictions and called her one of the “lying televangelists.”

The NMA also accused Jacobs of using “the most vague language imaginable.” Since her prophecy in 2009 was about a two-year period for the Philippines, whatever she saw for the country would cover only until 2011.

While Jacobs did not claim that Typhoon Yolanda was a fulfillment of her prediction, many of her followers believed that it was.

The website Spirit of Error also made the comparison between Jacobs’ prophecy and that of Prophet Elisha.

Prophet Elisha gave this prophecy:

“But Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.” Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” (2 Kings 7:1-2).”

The writer, Holly, noted that at the time of Elisha’s prophecy, Samaria was attacked, leading to a great famine. However, he prophesied that the city’s economy would recover overnight and it did. Flour and barley were also sold for the exact prices stated in Elisha’s prophecy.

Holly pointed out how Elisha’s prophecy had a definite time for its fulfillment, which was the very next day; how the prediction was about an unlikely circumstance given Samaria’s dire circumstances then; and how he gave concrete criteria, citing the exact prices of the barley and flour.

In comparison, Jacobs’ prophecy had a wide window of two years, was about something so vague as it covered all types of things that could happen to any country, from basking in greatness to suffering from troubled times, and lacked any concrete criteria as to how her prophecy will be fulfilled.

Holly also agreed with the Taiwanese animators, who said this on their YouTube video caption:

“Granted, the tragic events surrounding the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan, which has left more than 2200 people dead, have understandably prompted some serious soul-searching, but folks should be turning to more trustworthy outlets than a false prophet like Cindy Jacobs.”

As for Jacobs’ prophecy involving Duterte, that certainly could not be true. The elections Jacobs could be referring to in her 2009 prophecy, as covered in her two-year time frame, was the 2010 elections. Duterte was elected in 2016 so no, her prophecy was certainly not about Duterte. His followers and fan pages just liked to think that it was.
