Leni to Bato: Malalaman mo siguro na may ambition ako pag meron na akong mascot at standee sa mall

Vice President Leni Robredo said she is not eyeing the presidency as she is focused on her work, adding that her ambition for a higher post would be known once she has a mascot or standee at the malls.

This was her response after PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa told her to let President Rodrigo Duterte finish his term first before pursuing her own political ambitions.

“Natawa ako sa statement, ang biro ko nga, malalaman mo siguro na may ambition ako pag meron na siguro akong mascot at standee sa mga mall, pero hanggang wala akong mascot saka mga standee sa mall, gusto kong sabihin hindi ko pa inaambisyon,” Robredo said.

“Napakaraming oras ang kailangan natin para magtrabaho para isipin ang susunod na eleksyon,” she added.

The PNP chief also urged Robredo to support President Duterte’s policies.

Dela Rosa has a “PO1 Bato” mascot, launched in August 2016, which has been used in the police’s anti-drug campaign and to endear the cops to the people, especially the kids.

He even has a puppet version of himself, this time, sitting beside President Duterte’s puppet version.

He also has standees in some business establishments.

Netizens slammed dela Rosa for “politicizing” his position as PNP chief and turned the spotlight on him, telling him it was him who was trying to campaign early for a possible senatorial post.

Dela Rosa has earlier admitted to being open to any option, including running for Senator after he retired from the police force in January 2018.

But some people tried to get back at Robredo, reminding her that she also used a mascot once.

Pro-Duterte blogger Sass Sasot posted a photo of Robredo’s and former presidential candidate Mar Roxas’ mascots flashing the Laban sign alongside her daughters, Jillian and Tricia Robredo.

“Ang biro ni Leni Robredo kay Bato, wala raw siyang ambisyong maging president, meron na raw kung meron siyang “mascot standees” katulad ni Bato,” Sasot wrote.

Another Facebook user, Benjie Daisy Contreras, also accused Robredo of lying since she did use a mascot during the campaign.

But the photo of Robredo’s inflated mascot was used in the 2016 national elections, a point that some commenters on Sasot’s post also brought up.

“Nung election lang ginamit yan. Si Bato, Hindi pa election may mascot at standee na—- at may dolls pa!” one commenter wrote.
