Some eagle-eyed Twitter users were quick to spot the mistake in the ASEAN fast-facts displayed during the broadcast of the ASEAN 50 celebration on PTV Live Stream. They questioned just who prepared the short presentation about the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who was mistaken in thinking that Myanmar’s capital is Burma.
“Napaka-bobo ng nagpapatakbo ng gobyerno. KAILAN PA NAGING KABISERA NG MYANMAR ANG BURMA? Mga mangmang! I need an Advil. Naknampucha!” Twitter user @jayrcastillo24 tweeted.

“This is where our taxes go. And knowing they allocated huge budget for ASEAN. Ewan ko na lang,” @dumidyeypee also said.

Burma is actually the other name for Myanmar. The country’s capital Napyidaw, while its former capital and its largest city is Yangon or Rangoon. Myanmar has been an ASEAN member since 1997.
Other Twitter users had something to say about the mistake.

The alternative Twitter account for Communications Asec. Mocha Uson, @AsecMargauxUson, brought up how President Rodrigo Duterte was also once confused where Benham Rise was located.
Not surprising. Du30 was also unaware that Benham Rise is in the Pacific and also comically asked Mongolian and Turkey to join ASEAN. 🤡

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana though said that President Duterte was briefed by the National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. after confusing Benham Rise to be the West Philippine Sea, when the former is actually outside the West Philippine Sea.
