The article is actually an old one, as it first surfaced on social media in 2014, receiving thousands of shares, reactions, and comments when posted by Facebook pages, such as “Pinoy Rap Radio,” “Iglesia ni Cristo – International,” “Dugong Maharlika,” and “Showbiz Government.”

However, the story actually originated from the satirical news blog So, What’s News? It was supposed to be for fun, but the blogs that copied and published it tried to pass it off as real news and many of the readers did not even bother to check the veracity of the article’s claims.

Korina Sanchez, Noli de Castro persona non grata

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe allegedly declared Sanchez a persona non grata during his speech in front of the officials of the Japan Meteorological Agency regarding typhoon Ruby (or Hagupit in PH). He reportedly called Sanchez behavior as “unbecoming of a news anchor, let alone an Interior Ministry’s wife.”

Abe was quoted saying: “I am very saddened to hear reports of schadenfreude coming from a TV anchor, who just last year, was was put in her place by Mr. Anderson Cooper of CNN. That is why without a second thought, I am declaring wholeheartedly Ms. Korina Sanchez of the Philippines, as an unwelcome person anywhere in Japan.”

So, What’s News? then showed a part of Rappler’s report about Sanchez and de Castro’s exchange of comments regarding Typhoon Ruby.

“Sana hati na lang tayo,” de Castro said of the typhoon. “Kalahati sa Pilipinas, kalahati sa Japan.

But Sanchez responded, “Puwede bang sa kanila na lang lahat?”

She further said, “Sa kanila na lang lahat. Parang mas kaya nila.”

This allegedly caused Abe to say that he would only half-heartedly declare de Castro as persona non grata.

So, What’s News? is a satirical, fictional news site with the goal of entertaining people by “injecting humor” into daily news.

As what it said in its About page, “So, Whats News’ news are news that won’t make you depressed to read the news.”
