Senator Risa Hontiveros has become the apple of the eye of several fake meme makers as yet another photo of her holding a sign with a fake statement has been making the rounds in social media.

The photo posted on June 8 by “Baste News,” one of the many Facebook fan pages dedicated to the First Son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, showed a smiling Hontiveros holding up a sign with the following words: “Ang MAUTE ay mga Pilipino din. Intindihin natin sila. #PRAYFORMAUTE.”

As of writing, the post has been shared almost 20,000 times.

The same photo was also posted by Facebook pages “President Rodrigo Duterte Supporters Around the World” and “OFW GLOBAL MOVEMENT Supports President Rody Duterte,” among other pages.

As expected, Sen. Hontiveros was bashed by the netizens because of the said photo, believing that the photo was genuine.

However, the senator has debunked the fake meme, reminding netizens once more that not everything that we see online is true.

“The moment I called for #ConveneCongress, fake news have been spreading here and there. Paalala lang po na hindi lahat ng nakikita sa internet ay totoo. #fakezone,” she wrote on her official Facebook page on June 9.

Just the other day, there was also another fake meme circulating about her, which depicted her to be sympathetic to the Maute terror group and claimed that she called the terrorists “epitome of courage and resilience.”

Unlike the latest fake meme, which had Hontiveros asking for prayers and understanding for the Maute group, she condemned Maute and their terrorist act.

“The Maute group is a terrorist group. It is an enemy of peace and development, particularly the people of Mindanao. What they did to Marawi is a terrorist act that must be condemned by all. I have full trust in our AFP that they will defeat these terrorists. We will hold the Maute terrorists accountable. We will do it without losing our sense of humanity and love for democracy,” she said.
