Busted: Obama greets Duterte? Fake news alert!advertisement
After the fake news of US President-elect Donald Trump sending his personal Christmas greeting to President Rodrigo Duterte, another news has been circulating in social media about President Barack Obama also allegedly sending a personal Christmas message to the Philippine President.
In a post of the Facebook page “President Duterte Supporters Worldwide”, the article about Obama’s alleged greeting is attached along with the caption “Sa mga hindi pa po nakakaalam, may mensahe po si Barack Obama kay Pangulong Duterte! Ano po ang inyong masasabi ditto? Basahin niyo po at i-share!”
The attached article to the Facebook post is from Pinoyspeak.info, which cited thet1mes.com as its source for the news. It has been shared around Facebook for 496 times, as of writing.
The article from thet1mes.com claims that President Barack Obama greeted President Duterte during a pre-Christmas celebration held at the White House last December 24, 2016.
The article also included the full quotation of Obama’s alleged greeting.
“I know when I wish my brother Duterte a very Merry Christmas people will not believe it. Yes, I mean it. Merry Christmas my brother. Our differences cannot kill our brotherhood. The relationship that the Philippines and the America had is still intact. Thank you, thank you,” he supposedly said.
However, we need to take note that this article was published by thet1mes.com, a website that has already been busted by Meme Buster several times for posting fake news articles.
Thet1mes was also the website that posted the article about Trump allegedly greeting Duterte for Christmas which was already proven as a made up story, as well as hoaxes like De Lima buying a New York mansion, African presidents calling Duterte a hero, and more.
