Heydarian nails Marcos’ trick – Borrow money, build infrastructure, let 3 generations pay for it

Political scientist Richard Heydarian made a post earlier debunking the idea that dictator Ferdinand Marcos was the best president the Philippines has ever had, as per his loyalists. He evaluated Marcos’ 21-year presidency based on currency, national debt, average GDP, national security, and national industries, all of which showed that he was not the best president after all. On top of it all, he plundered billions of pesos from the country’s coffers and victimized thousands of Filipinos during Martial Law.

In a separate Facebook post, Heydarian addressed another common line of defense used by Marcos loyalists – how Marcos was able to construct infrastructure that are still in use today.

“Give me 21 years of (unchecked) presidency, and I will build you more infrastructure than all your presidents combined,” he said.

And how does he think he could do that?

“It’s easy. All you have to do is borrow all the money for it, claim all the credit as if you paid for it, then let 3 generations pay the debt with massive interest,” Heydarian added.

With that borrowed money, he could easily make himself look good and become the “best president ever.”

“Then when my successors can’t build anything, since they have to pay my gigantic debt, you will hate them & remember me as the best president ever,” he said.

He added this to conclude his post: “Mind you, since I respect the 8th commandment, no kickbacks of course!”

As of writing, his post has earned over 4,300 shares and 6,400 reactions.
