‘Hindi ganitong pagbabago ang hinihiling namin:’ #JusticeForKian trends

When 17-year old Kian Lloyd delos Santos was killed by three cops after another “nanlaban” excuse, the netizens paid attention. The hashtag #JusticeForKean trended on Twitter on August 18 and 19, where people expressed anguish over the Grade 12 student’s death.

Kian was among the 24 reported deaths in Caloocan’s police operations. He was accused by the police of being a drug runner, although he was not found in any drug list.

The police’s spot report said that Kian fired a gun at a cop, who in turn fired back at the 17-year-old in self-defense. However, a CCTV footage of Kian being dragged by two cops with a third one following them did not seem to show any signs of Kian fighting back.

PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa apologized to the families of the drug suspects who died in police operations. However, the netizens still voiced out their call for justice for Kian’s death.

#JusticeForKian trended. It was later found out, though, that Kian was in Grade 12 and wanted to be a cop himself.

“hindi ganitong pagbabago ang hinihiling namin,” tweeted one.

Another one recalled the lyrics of the song “Tatsulok: “Totoy making ka, wag kang magpa-gabi baka mapagkamalan ka’t humandusay diyan sa tabi.”
It was originally performed by the activist folk-rock group Buklod and was covered by Pinoy rock band Bamboo.

Remember the disabled boy who was asked to run before he was shot to death, one Twitter user recalled.

Someone also tweeted that was said to be a poem written by Kian’s former high school teacher.

Another one tweeted: “Let Kian’s story break your heart. Be human.”
