Son of Robredo’s friend denies accusations of ‘unexplained wealth,’ calls #NagaLeaks ‘tabloid’ article

The son of one of the personalities mentioned in #NagaLeaks reacted to the leaks’ story about his father and denied his family’s accumulation of “unexplained wealth,” while dismissing the story as mere “cheap article meant for tabloids” for lack of evidence.

The document released by a group called “We Are Collective as an expose of the Robredo’s alleged deception, is William Del Rosario Sr. It accused the older Del Rosario of benefiting from his friendship with the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo after enjoying “new found wealth.”

Del Rosario’s son, his namesake, took to Facebook to react to Collective’s allegations.

He started off with identifying “possible mistakes” in #NagaLeaks, where he denied his family’s “new found wealth” or “unexplained wealth.”

“1) One of Robredo’s men who enjoyed new found wealth because of this friendship was William Del Rosario…
– The crux of the case given is the proof of ‘new found wealth’ or ‘unexplained wealth’. The statement offers the conclusion first before providing evidence.”

The younger Del Rosario, however, said that at least the Collective got the Robredo family home’s address in Brgy. Dayangdang and the fact that the Del Rosarios’ first business was selling meat products at the public market before his father got elected as barangay chairman.

However, he shot back at We Are Collective for claiming that his father is a part of the secret companies that Robredo owned.

“4)…Later on he would become part of several companies secretly owned by Jesse Robredo that traded consumer goods and poultry products.
– Huh? Unless Jesse Robredo owned CDO and/or San Miguel Corp., this allegation is baseless.
– Also, assuming this is true, ano naman?
– Bill of Particulars: Ano issue? Yung legitimacy ba ng companies? Or yung trading consumer goods? As long as legitimate ang transactions (di naman drugs), again, ano issue?”

He also showed a glimpse of his father and Robredo’s friendship in an anecdote of how his father refused to stay with Robredo in Manila when the latter was appointed as Interior Secretary.

“5) Of course under the circumstances, William was no less than Jesse’s dummy…
– HAHAHA. They were really close. When Jesse Robredo was appointed Secretary and had to stay in Manila he asked my dad to come visit him because he missed Naga. To which my dad replied, ‘eh parehas tayong makakamiss sa Naga? mag-isa ka jan.’ This anecdote is a testament to how Tito Jesse valued my dad’s friendship and my dad’s poor character as a friend. Hahahaha.”

As for how the older Del Rosario has become the “envy of his peers” for his wealth, his son said that he does not really know anything about that.

“6)…but he enjoyed a level of wealth and comfort that made him the envy of his peers.
– I’m not sure. hahaha. Malay ko ba. Who goes around other people’s houses to check kung comfortable ba yung mga buhay nila juxtaposed to yours? hahaha. Ang lala.”

The younger Del Rosario then said that it “pained” him how the product of his family’s “hardships,” “hard work” and “a bit of good luck” was easily dismissed as “unexplained wealth,” adding that he still believed that his parents had a success story.

Without presenting evidence, he added, #NagaLeaks would simply be a “cheap article meant for tabloids and not the expose they intend it to be.”X Robredos friend denies accusations

“If this demolition job’s primary objective is to invalidate the good work Jesse Robredo has done for Naga City, and somehow associate it with Vice President Leni Robredo, by discrediting the people around him, the author/s of this ‘leak’ should do a better job. Evidence for each severed cause of action should be presented, otherwise it would only be a cheap article meant for tabloids and not the exposé they intend it to be.”

And then Del Rosario posed these three questions to We Are Collective:

“1) If it were up to you, civil, criminal or both?
2) Do you have properties my family and, perhaps, other families can levy for moral damages?
3) How do you sleep at night?”

His post on March 3, 3 hours after #NagaLeaks was published online, has gone viral. It has been shared 1, 211 times and has received 3,400 reactions, as of writing.

But We Are Collective also posted their reaction to Del Rosario’s take on #NagaLeaks. They warned him to simply wait because they are not done yet and they have yet to go in-depth in their expose, where the older Del Rosario is involved. They promised to give more details and fired back the same question he asked of them at him, something that they said he should ask his dad: “Daddy William how do you sleep at night?”
