Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has allegedly blamed the Philippines’ Miss Universe loss on the efforts to destroy President Rodrigo Duterte. This is what an article from sowhatsnews.wordpress.com claimed, which is a satirical blog. This meant that the article is simply a satirical piece, although like what has happened to several satirical articles in the past, Filipino netizens did not take it as satire.
Facebook page “Every Woman” shared the article, captioning it with “Hahaha!” However, the comments on the said post chastised Aguirre for allegedly making the remarks cited in the title.

It was also shared by “Silent No More,” although the page clearly indicated that it is a satirical piece.
“Dear Fellow Filipinos, Dilawan ang organizers ng Miss U! Wag magwala mga Ka-DDS. Satire.haha!”
Unfortunately, the netizens who commented on the post seemed to take the article seriously despite the page’s warning about it being satire.
According to the satirical piece “Aguirre: #MissUniverse Loss an Indirect Attempt to Destroy Duterte” from So, Whats News?, Aguirre described Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina’s failure to make it to the top 3 as part of an effort to destroy Duterte. He even called it “only an isolated incident” to tarnish the country’s reputation. Aguirre even allegedly called on the Department of Tourism to investigate the case.

It does seem that many Filipinos still fail to recognize satire when they read one.
This piece from SWN seemed to be in reference to Aguirre’s statement about how the murder of South Korean national Jee Ick Joo in Camp Crame involving police officers was an indirect attempt to ruin Duterte.
If they only read the content of the article, they would have noticed how the alleged statements from Aguirre were merely mimicking the statements he made earlier about the Korean slay case.

See? If the netizens who reacted negatively and took the satirical piece as the truth read the content of the article, they would have probably detected that the article should not be taken seriously.
