Government officials should not use personal attacks when disagreeing with each other, Vice President Leni Robredo said on August 18.
“Iyong sa akin ay puwede naman na nag-disagree tayo on issues pero sa diskusyon whether nag-a-agree tayo o disagree kailangan pakinggan natin ang bawat isa, kailangan kahit iba sa paniniwala natin, magrespetuhan,” she said.
She made the statement in an ambush interview during the commemoration of the fourth death anniversary of her husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
“Kasi tayo namang lahat, kaya tayo nandito para to bring out the best in people, di ba? Pag binaba natin ang discourse sa personalan, baka ang na-bi-bring out natin ay ang worst in people,” Robredo added.

The vice president said that the conversation must be about the issues, not the personal tirades.
Robredo’s statement came after Duterte publicly named Senator Leila de Lima as the female government official he called as “immoral woman” who has a driver/lover involved with drugs.
De Lima, in response, called the President’s move as ‘character assassination.’
“Nakakalungkot na kailangang personalan ang laban,” Robredo said.
She called on all the government officials to be “inspiring,” especially for the Filipinos they are serving.
“Dapat tayo, kaming lahat, si Presidente, ako, si Sen. Leila, ang lahat ng government officials kailangan maging inspiring kami. Hindi lang para sa ibang mga government officials pati na sa ating mga kababayan. Kailangang maibalik lang sa issue ang usapin,” Robredo said.
Robredo made a statement on the Duterte-de Lima conflict along with Senators Risa Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan and former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, among others.
