A Duterte fan page shared an article claiming that Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson described Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte as an inspiration to everyone.
Facebook page “Duterte Para Sa Pagbabago” posted a Filipino version of the news, which we later discovered to have come from the fake news site, newsaljazeera.com.
The English version of the story has been shared over 800 times, according to Facebook Links results.
According to newsaljazeera.com, Johnson, more popularly knowns as The Rock, praised Duterte’s characteristic of “getting things done,” which he allegedly said showed the importance of being consistent in handling challenges.
He was even quoted saying in the report, “He has inspired many of us in different ways.” He added, “…we need to embrace it with positivity.”

However, we have every reason to doubt the claims made by newsaljazeera.com. First up, we could not find any story linking The Rock to Duterte, except for a news.com.au article with the title, “Philippines: President Rodrigo Duterte’s friend ‘The Rock’ is the man behind the war on drugs.” But The Rock here referred to PNP Chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, not the Hollywood actor.
Second, we have busted some of the stories we found on newsaljazeera.com, including one of their recent stories about Donald Trump Jr. saying that he sometimes felt as though the Filipino president is his president.
Third, as we have shown before in the Donald Trump Jr. bust, there are a lot of fake articles on the website, further establishing the fact that it is a fake news site.
If you find more stories from newsaljazeera.com, be extra careful. You might just be on your way to getting duped if you readily believe their claims, especially when they have a habit of mixing truths with lies.
