Busted: Ebdane, not Aquino, accused of selling Zambales mountains to China; incident still under investigation

Zambales Governor Amor Deloso revealed on July 25 that the Chinese military used rocks and soil from their mountain in their Scarborough reclamation and Facebook page “Showbiz Government” and “President Rodrigo Duterte Supporters” dragged President Benigno Aquino’s name in.

These pages used a clip from a UNTV News and Rescue report detailing Deloso’s revelation about the use of the soil and rocks from the mountains in Santa Cruz to develop 3,500 hectares in Scarborough Shoal. The governor added that two and a half mountains in the said town were already sold to China.

Deloso also said that he has ordered to stop the mining activities in the area, adding that he is alarmed by the Chinese military presence in Scarborough Shoal. He noted the fact that they already have an airport in the reclaimed area during his interview with UNTV.

Department of Energy and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez warned that whoever authorized the foreigners in taking Philippine soil for their landfill, “heads should roll.”

ABS-CBN News reported that DENR is conducting an investigation into these accusations made by Deloso. DENR Undersecretary Arturo Valdez said that they are tracking the movement of sand and minerals in and out of Zambales.

According to tabloid Abante, Kabayan Rep. Harry Roque is in on the hunt for whoever is responsible in the alleged sale of the Zambales mountains.

The representative also said that he is ready to file a case against former Zambales Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane, who was accused of permitting China in getting Philippine soil for their reclamation project.

“… Kakasuhan na naman natin sila… ‘di ba kinasuhan ko na si Ebdane kaya nga nandun na yung kaso sa Sandiganbayan,” Roque said.

As for those accusing the Aquino administration of selling the mountains in Zambales, they seemed to have forgotten that this is the same administration who brought China to court and won! Or they might have been Aquino critics who don’t want to acknowledge this major victory for the Philippines. Why wouldn’t they when even Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III has filed a resolution crediting Aquino and other key government officials for tribunal win over China? Even President Rodrigo Duterte thanked Aquino for securing the victory over the West Philippine Sea, Rappler reported.

If they wanted to point their fingers, they just have to wait for the DENR investigation to identify the culprit, although some fingers are already pointing towards Ebdane. Or is this the norm now? Accusing people without proper investigation?

If this continues, every one of us might fall victim to what wrongly accused cyclist shooter Nestor Punzalan went through in the past few days after his name and photos were shared online even before a proper investigation was conducted. How would you feel being threatened by strangers online for doing something you absolutely did not do?
