Confessed “Davao Death Squad” member Edgar Matobato testified at the Senate Thursday, September 15, that Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte ordered to have Cebuano businessman Richard King killed. But his credibility was questioned by Senator Panfilo Lacson when he said that King was gunned down inside a fastfood chain.
“Binaril sa hotel, sa kainan. Doon binaril ng dalawa kong kasama,” Matobato said.
Asked what that hotel is, the witness instead replied: “Sa McDo din.”
Prompted to answer further, Matobato said, “Mcdo, kumakain.”
However, Lacson said that he doubted Matobato’s story after he Googled the circumstances of King’s murder and found that he was killed inside the Vital C Building in Obrero, Davao City on June 12, 2014.
Miyako Izabel explained that Matobato was actually explaining “the whole place” to the senator. She said that the Senate witness was credible, despite Lacson questioning his credibility because of his mistakes in re-telling King’s murder.
“Edgar Matobato, a former hitman of the Davao Death Squad, was actually telling Senator Lacson the whole place – hotel, kainan, at McDo,” Izabel said in her Facebook post.
She then showed a photo of the fastfood chain McDonald’s and its close proximity to the Vital C building, marked by a signage, crediting her find to Google Maps.
Izabel also commended de Lima in being thorough and precise in pointing out that McDonald’s was indeed located close to the building where King was shot dead.
“Wow, Senator de Lima was thorough and precise. Now I know she is really that brilliant a lawyer,” she said.
“It is up to Filipinos now to wake up and speak out,” she added.
In a separate Facebook post, she urged her followers to click on the Google map photo to enlarge it, emphasizing that Matobato mentioned these vital points in the location – hotel, McDo.
“Lahat ng mga yan ay katabi ng Vital C. Isa pa, huwag niyong kalimutan na wala siya sa crime scene. Hindi siya kasama sa pagpatay. Nasabihan lang o naikuwento sa kanya. Huwag na ngang magpalusot. Pagnilayan na lang ang mga binunyag at tanungin ang sarili kung gaano kamahal ang bansa,” Izabel said.
“Oo nga pala, ang green na signage sa ilalim ng malaking billboard ay may ‘Hotel’ na nakasulat. I-click niyo nga kasi ang imahe para lalaki,” she added.
One of her commenters also showed this photo of the locations of both McDonald’s and Vital C – Davao Depot.
Matobato also said that President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the bombings of mosques and the killings of the suspects in the Davao Cathedral bombing in 1993. He added that Duterte also ordered to have four of former House Speaker Prospero Nograles killed in 2010.
