Mocking and bashing were effective weapons against candidates during the campaign for the 2016 elections. It was easier for many netizens to bash candidates once they get their hands on edited, manipulated photos. It turns out many supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte are still using that trick to lambast people in the opposition.
These photos were actually edited versions of this article posted by CNN Philippines on their Facebook page about Duterte showing his list of officials, including mayors, who are involved in the illegal drug trade.
This move on the part of Duterte’s supporters meant that they have not gotten over the phase of editing photos to spread false messages online.
Some of Duterte’s supporters could have even gotten in serious trouble when they made a meme about Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong endorsing Duterte since the Singaporean government was considering pursuing legal action against the meme makers.

They were also notorious in involving personalities and celebrities to make it seem as though they were endorsing Duterte during the campaign period, such as Willie Revillame, Liza Soberano, Andi Eigenmann, and more. They even used US President Barrack Obama and American journalist Anderson Cooper in their false memes to attack the previous administration.
Netizens who did not bother checking and verifying facts often fall for the lies behind the edited photos and memes and continue sharing them on social media. It pays to be vigilant in checking the facts first before sharing or posting anything.
