Netizens slam Andanar for calling EU officials critical of Duterte ‘pala-iyot’

Netizens were outraged over Communication Secretary Martin Andanar’s remarks on European Union officials after he called them “pala-iyot,” a Bisaya term referring to people having too much sex.

“’Yung mga maingay na palaiyot, ’yung mga maiingay…. Alam mo, ang problema sa kanila hanggang ingay lang sila, wala namang napatunayan. Kung tatanungin mo ’yung kanilang prime minister, mga presidente, ’yung talagang namamahala sa mga bansa, pati sila sumusuporta kay Presidente,” said Andanar, while talking to OFWs in London on October 23.

“’Yung mga nasa ’baba na palaiyot, sila lang ang maingay kasi kulang pa sa iyot,” he added, causig the audience to laugh.

Here’s a video of Andanar making his controversial remarks against EU officials:

Netizens reacted to Andanar’s remarks on social media, with some of them noting how Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo earlier “joked” about how he f*cks his clothes. Panelo later defended his joke, saying that it was meant to be an “interplay of words,” using “f*ck” instead of “pack.”

“May contest ba sa kabastusan na di ko alam gais? Ano premyo?” a Twitter user asked.

Actress Chai Fonacier also weighed in on the issue.

“For the record: this person’s language does not represent Bisaya people & our attitudes Thanks. #iDisownAndanar,” Fonacier wrote.

On Facebook, netizens also hit Andanar.

“And you blame Trillanes about our image abroad???!!! Really???!!!! Wow, just wow!!!! Grrr!!!!” one commenter said.

“Behold, our finest leaders na dapat tularan ng kabataan.”

In a GMA News Online report, Andanar confirmed that it was him in the video posted by anti-Duterte critic Pinoy Ako Blog.

“I had two [meet-and-greet] events with DDS groups yesterday in London. It was a good time to talk about political issues in the Philippines and to listen to their concerns,” he told GMA News via text message.

Andanar said he visited the UK with PCOO Asec. Kris Ablan to attend a two-day conference called “Making All Voices Count, Policy and Practice Dialogue” in Brighton.
