Andanar says PNA causes stir for blunders because it now has more readers to spot errors but netizens disagree

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar lamented and promised to revamp the Philippine News Agency after committing several blunders, but he also said that such blunders were detected because the state-run news agency now has more readers.

“Naglabasan ang kapalpakan at napansin ng madla. Bakit napansin ng madla ang kapalpakan? Sapagkat binabasa na ang PNA ngayon,” Andanar was quoted saying.

However, the n etizens have a different perspective on the matter, though.

Parody page Superficial Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines offered to fix Andanar’s statement.

In a meme, SGRP said, “We’ll fix that for you. Kaya binabasa na ang PNA, dahil napapansin ng madla na ito ay palpak at walang kwenta.”

Commenters on the post hit Andanar for his reasoning.

One calls PNA a “channel for unintended slapstick comedy.”

Others slammed Andanar’s spin of the issue.

Someone said PNA is getting the attention that someone driving on the wrong side of the road would get.

“Mag-drive ka sa maling side ng kalsada, di ba madami makakapansin nun,” he said.

Others said that many readers now try to read PNA because of its blunders and to spot more blunders.

Journalist Nonoy Espina also slammed Andanar for his statement.

“When incompetence is cited as proof of ‘success,’” he wrote on Facebook.

Twitter users also wanted to correct Andanar’s statement about PNA’s readership.

“Dear @PresidentialCom Sec. Andanar: Just because many are pointing out PNA errors doesn’t mean more readers. It means you have more errors,” @dannyarao said.

@carloshconde said Andanar might use the same reasoning “for his eventual political demise.”
