Kerwin Espinosa, an alleged drug lord in Eastern Visayas who had been detained in Abu Dhabi where he was caught, is expected to arrive in the country before dawn on Friday, November 18, according to the Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.
“Ang sabi sa akin ni (Senior Supt) Albert Ferro (Anti-Illegal Drugs Group chief) baka mga madaling araw ng Biyernes, mga 2 a.m. or 3 a.m.,” dela Rosa said on Wednesday during a press conference in Camp Crame.
Dela Rosa said that so far no problem was reported to him with regards to the processing of Espinosa’s papers, but Ferro and his team, who will fetch Espinosa from Abu Dhabi, have not yet been interviewed.
“So far wala daw (problema). Na-interview pa lang. Hindi pa naming nakunan ng affidavit dahil dito na namin kukunan,” he said.

“Ang intial na balak ay doon kukunan (of an affidavit) sa Embassy but hindi pala ganun, gagawin nilang protocol, turnover is doon sa eroplano, pagpasok sa pintuan ng eroplano so hindi na makadaan sa Embassy,” dela Rosa added.
Kerwin is set to be brought to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame once he arrives at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The booking process will be held at the Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG) office.
Dela Rosa, however, refused to disclose further details about their preparation for Espinosa’s arrival.
He also added that they will not bring Espinosa to his hometown, Albuera, Leyte, as it is too risky to do so. All proceedings will be conducted in Metro Manila.
“Hindi na natin dadalhin sa Albuera, para less ang risk. Hindi nga natin i-present sa court sa Albuera. Kausapin natin ang court doon na i-return ang warrant tapos pabisitahin pa natin, mahirap ‘yun,” he said.
Kerwin is considered as one of the keys to unravelling the illegal drug trade in the country as well as the people behind it and further help the development of the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs in the Philippines.
“Very important dahil he holds the key to the future of the others involved in the illegal drug trade. Siya ang makakapagsabi,” dela Rosa said.
