Has a wiretapped conversation between Senator Leila De Lima and her driver-lover Ronnie Dayan leaked online?
Several articles claimed to have the “breaking news” about how such a private conversation was caught through wiretap, as published by blogs like viral-dutertenews.blogspot.com, pinoyspeak.info, pinoyworld.net, and newstrendph.com.
Facebook pages “Solid and Loyal DuterteCayetano for Federalism” and “Inday Sara Supporters” recently shared these articles on January 31.

However, we found that fan pages “President Duterte Supporters,” “Duterte Media,” and “Duterte Parallel Organization – Tagumpay ng Pagbabago,” among other pages, shared the story back in December 2016. In fact, the post made by “President Duterte Supporters” even earned over 6,200 shares and 6,800 reactions.

The articles carried by the different blogs were actually the same. We read through the content, which showed an alleged exchange between De Lima, which they misspelled as Delima and Dayan, whose first name they wrongly spelled as “Ronie.”
But what caught our attention is the fact that two of the paragraphs in the lengthy article said:
Scenario: WIRE TAP CONVERSATION POTENTIAL”

This part of the article proved that the alleged conversation between De Lima and Dayan was born out of the author’s imagination, it was completely made up with the hope that it could help move the case against De Lima.
The article was merely the author’s suggestions on how to use wiretapping to prove that De Lima was indeed involve in the Bilibid drug trade. It also contained the author’s opinion about how the testimonies of Dayan and Kerwin Espinosa, especially Dayan’s testimonies about his relationship with De Lima, only served as distractions that draw attention away from the senator’s involvement with drugs.
De Lima, though, did talk about how her cell phones were tapped back in September 2016.
Even President Rodrigo Duterte himself said that he listened to the wiretapped phone calls between De Lima and Dayan, but he only did it once because it was all lovers’ talk.

Senator Panfilo Lacson also said in jest on January 18 how De Lima is the “most wiretapped individual” in the world, a title which he also claimed to have once been his and that of Senator Gregorio Honasan at different periods of time.
But one thing for sure, though, is that the conversation published on various blogs online is not that of De Lima and Dayan. The title was meant to mislead the readers and the readers could easily take the alleged conversation as true if they don’t take enough time to through all those paragraphs, where the disclaimer about it being a product of the author’s imagination was inserted.
