The American online publication, The Intercept, obtained a copy of the full transcript and published the document. It turned out to be an official document of the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines. In collaboration with the Philippine news publication Rappler, The Intercept wrote that “well-placed sources” at the Malacañang Palace and DFA confirmed the authenticity of the transcript to Rappler reporters, despite its typographical errors.

The transcript showed how Trump said that Duterte is doing an “unbelievable job on the drug problem” and slammed former US President Barack Obama for not understanding what Duterte was trying to do for his country.

The two leaders then got on to talking about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, described by Duterte as someone who is “not stable” because he “keeps on smiling when he explodes a rocket.” Duterte also described Kim as this generation’s “mad man.”
