Saudi Arabians are reportedly keeping an eye on their next possible king. Will it be King Rodrigo Duterte then his term ends as Philippine president?
This is what an online story is claiming, with its title being, “Saudi Arabians request Duterte to be their King after the end of his term!”

Surprisingly, despite how outrageously fake the story is, it has been shared hundreds of times by Duterte-inclined Facebook pages and groups. Some of these pages include “Inday Sara Supporters,” “Solid and Loyal DuterteCayetano for Federalism,” “Sara Duterte Solid Supporters,” and more.
While the story was picked up by blog site filipinews.info, it actually originated from the fake news site cnnnews-channel.com.

According to the hoax site, jubilant Saudi Arabia citizens allegedly urged Duterte to be their next king after his presidency ends. The site further claimed that the citizens would love to be served by Duterte, whom they considered as “one of the best leaders in the world” and a “brilliant individual.”
The story came after Duterte visited the Middle East during the Holy Week, from April 10-16.
However, the fake story is ridiculous enough in claiming that the Saudi Arabians can choose their next king and a Filipino at that.
The next ruler will be chosen among the members of the House of Saud, Saudi Arabia’s ruling royal family. It is the family of the descendants of Muhammad bin Saud, founder of the First Saudi state Emirate of Diriyah), and his brothers, although Saudis’ rulers are often descendants of Ibn Saud, considered to be the modern founder of Saudi Arabia.
King Salman of Saudi Arabia has already chosen the first and second in line to the throne. In 2015, he named his nephew, Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, as crown prince. The king also named his son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the deputy crown prince.
There is absolutely no hope for Duterte of becoming the next king of Saudi Arabia. However, the comments on Facebook about the hoax certainly made it seem as though many Filipino netizens took the story seriously. Sad! L

However, there are also those who were quick to notice that the story is indeed fake.
