Busted: Robredo questions Duterte’s photo on OFW ID card? It’s not true at all!

Vice President Leni Robredo allegedly questioned the placement of President Rodrigo Duterte’s photo in the newly released identification cards for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

And the story has already spread on Facebook after being shared by individual Facebook users and Facebook pages, such as “Alan Peter Cayetano Supporters International,” “Pinoy News Huddle,” “Newspaper Pilipinas,” and “Okd2,” among others. It was picked up by timenewsinformation.blogspot.pe, newspaperph.com, newsprimeph.blogspot.pe, and philnewscourier.blogspot.com.

In the article, Robredo was quoted saying these statements:

But we could not find these statements on reliable sources. Moreover, one of the websites that carried the story, philnewscourier.blogspot.com, have published fake stories before, such as those claiming that the CBCP asked the mother of a minor victim to forgive the priest and that the bishops’ organization agreed to Maute terrorists’ offer to have another hostaged priest released in exchange for the Maute parents. Moreover, philnewscourier.blogspot.com’s story was shared by Okd2, which has been the source of misleading stories that they pass off as “satire.”

Robredo did not make the statements that were quoted and attributed to her in the story about the OFW ID’s design, but the fake story has already got netizens bashing her for envying the fact that Duterte has his photo plastered on the IDs.  She has not commented on the ID so far.

What’s true, though, is how the ID with Duterte’s face on it has received “epal” comments online. The Department of Labor and Employment said that the ID’s design was the initiative of the department, not the Malacañang, and that it is now open to redesigning the ID after drawing flak.
