Busted: ‘Recount result ediniklara na panalo si Bongbong sa lahat ng lugar kung saan siya dinaya’ is misleading!

Former senator Bongbong Marcos was said to have won in the problem areas his camp identified as the areas where cheating during the elections happened, as per online reports.

With a title that says, “LOOK: Recount Result Ediniklara Na Panalo Si Bongbong Sa Lahat Ng Lugar Kung Saan Siya Dinaya,” the report has been shared a few thousands of times on Facebook by pages such as “Inday Sara Solid Supporters,” “President Duterte Astig Supporters,” “Dugong Maharlika,” and “Tatay Digong Global Supporters,” and by individuals to Facebook groups “Duterte DieHard Supporters International,” “Bong Bong Marcos Loyalist Group,” among others.

Some of the blogs that carried the report included newsportalph.info, du30media.info, du30newsworldwide.info, newsglobal.world, echonewsph.info, dds-tambayan.info, and topnewsph.info.

But when you click on the links carrying the report, you will only find an almost 20-minute long YouTube video of mostly Marcos’ legal spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez explaining how they identified Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental as the areas for recount. He said that these provinces showed major discrepancies in the votes transmitted by the Vote Counting Machines (VCMs) and reported in the Certificates of Canvass (COCs) and those cast in the ballots. Based on reports, this happened back in June 2017.

The video also showed the reporter talking about how the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), moved the preliminary conference on July 11.

The YouTube video even showed a clip about a report on President Rodrigo Duterte’s 2017 SONA, which he delivered on July 24, another showing Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella releasing a statement about the SWS survey showing fewer Filipinos rating themselves as poor, and other clips unrelated to the headline about Marcos winning in the alleged VP vote recount.

What we know about the VP election protest so far is that the Supreme Court junked Marcos’ first cause of action for his electoral protest, which questioned the integrity of the automated election system in its decision dated August 29. For Marcos’ camp, they said the fight is not yet over, taking the SC’s decision as its way of telling them that they need to proceed to the “right cause of action,” which could still proclaim Marcos as the VP.

But Vice President Leni Robredos’ election lawyer Romulo Macalintal said, “Yang dismissal na ‘yan ng first cause of action, ang nangyayari ngayon sa protest ni Mr. Marcos, naghihingalo na yan.”

In a Manila Bulletin report on September 18, Macalintal was said to have earlier remarked that the ballot recount will not start anytime soon.

“The recount of ballots will not start yet. That may probably reach January or February before it begins,” Macalintal said on the sidelines of the Far Eastern University Policy Center’s forum in Makati City on August 31.

Robredo’s lawyer said that it would take time to collect the ballots from Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental.

“It may take long before all of them will be retrieved. Another thing, the Supreme Court is still preparing on where it will be placed,” he said in Filipino.

Moreover, if the results of the recount have indeed come out, it would have made such a splash in the media.

The headline is not only misleading and unrelated to some of the clips shown in the YouTube video it carries, but it also shares fake news because as of September 27, no VP vote recount results has been released. In fact, it has not even started and as per Macalintal, it would take a while before the vote recount will start.

We’ve busted other fake stories related to the VP electoral protest, including those that claimed that the vote recount was set on May 27, 2017, that the SC favored Marcos in his protest, and that Comelec chairman Andres Bautista linked Robredo to the Comelec hacking.
