Facebook fan pages have been sharing an article claiming that the Philippines and US President Donald Trump have grown close and that Communications Secretary Martin Andanar attended Trump’s inauguration. However, what caught everyone’s attention is the photo accompanying the article, which showed Trump shaking hands with Andanar. It turned out to be an edited photo.

Some of the fan pages that have shared the said edited photo are “Duterte Phenomenon,” “Duterte Parallel Organization – Tagumpay ng Pagbabago,” “Duterte-Marcos Loyalist,” “Duterte Para sa Pagbabago,” and “Inday Sara Supporters,” among other pages.

When we clicked on the link, as published by du30info.com and philmedia.info, what we saw instead is a YouTube video that is almost 16 minutes long of Andanar broadcasting via Facebook Live for his program “Martin’s Mancave” about being in Washington D.C., on the streets close to the Philippine Embassy and consular office in the US.

It was the morning after Trump’s January 20 inauguration and Andanar so he was talking about the happenings during the previous day and his meetings in the US, alongside National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. He also talked about how he was planning on talking to the American media to explain to them President Duterte’s policies, which now include an independent foreign policy, how he agreed with Trump’s similar campaign to stop drugs in the US too and how this compared to Duterte’s policy, and all his other plans during his visit in America.
The video did not show Andanar attending the inauguration, much more shaking Trump’s hand, as what was shown in the primary photo used by the articles.
Facebook page “Madam Claudia” actually busted that photo.
That photo of Andanar in white holding his hand out is actually cropped from this photo of his meeting with BBC executives for the improvement of PTV-4.
Trump, in the edited hand-shake photo with Andanar, was actually shaking hands with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in the original photo.
Trump did send his regards to Duterte, but it was coursed through Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart.
While Andanar said they were seated in the area assigned for US senators when they attended Trump’s inauguration, he did not say that he was able to get too close to Trump, let alone shake the hands of the new US president. And the photo of Andanar shaking Trump’s hand, along with the caption of Trump allegedly saying “Send my regards to Mr. Duterte,” has been proven to be merely an edited photo.
