Busted: Netizens slammed media for not covering fire truck turnover, assumed it’s under Duterte admin but it’s not

When Facebook page “911 Philippines Supporters” shared the video of the fire truck turnover ceremony, complete with the colorful water display from the fire trucks, netizens started ranting against the media in the comments section for not covering the event. This is mainly because they assumed that the ceremony happened during President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.

Others assumed that the fire truck project was initiated by Duterte.

The wrong assumptions could have stemmed from the fact that 911 Philippines Supporters did not correctly caption the video. It simply said, “Napahanga talaga ang ibat ibang bansa sa video na to. Nakaka proud. Bureau of Fire Protection Firetrucks.” And the hashtags used did not help either.

We have already written about the same fire truck turnover ceremony video when it was first posted by Facebook page “911 Philippines” in July 2016 and was initially shared without the proper credits and the correct details of what the video was all about. Please read “Busted: Netizens called out 911 Philippines for misleading caption of Feb 2016 fire truck turnover video.”

The video was originally uploaded by the Office of the BFP Public Information Services on February 19, 2016 with the title “Turnover of 3rd Batch of DILG Fire Trucks Drone Shot.”

According to an article from the DILG website, the government turned over 155 units of fire engines to the recipients during the third batch of distribution. The ceremony was covered by the media, evident in the CNN Philippines’ article “BFP distributes 155 fire trucks.” It was also reported about by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in the article “155 new fire trucks to benefit LGUs.”

Hopefully, Facebook page “911 Philippines Supporters” will do what the other page, “911 Philippines” did after getting comments from netizens correcting their post – clarify their caption by providing the details behind the video to avoid misleading other netizens.
