Writer, netizens accused Mocha of mistakenly elevating Hong Kong’s status to a ‘state’

New PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson is an active Facebook user, putting up regular posts about the Duterte administration daily. She had made a few erroneous posts before, some of which she corrected or deleted. This time, a journalist and at least two netizens pointed out another error when Mocha said that President Duterte is making a “state visit to Cambodia, China, and HK (Hong Kong).”

Journalist Raissa Robles tweeted on May 10, “The new Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson             has just elevated Hong Kong to the status of a sovereign country.” She also posted a screenshot of Mocha’s post.

On the same day, Facebook user Romy Alegre also pointed out Mocha’s “blunder,” adding that she might get chastised later. He also said that Mocha would not want China to “protest” what she said on her Facebook page.

“The presidential communications office is an integral part of governance at the highest level. We cannot afford to have such blunders! At the very least, she should know that China and HK follow “one country-two systems,” a unique political structure that needs to be handled with political sensitivity. She would not want China protesting over her published blog now that she holds a high Asec post!” Alegre wrote.

netizens accused Mocha

Facebook user Bernard Ong listed down his “humble contributions” to Mocha’s Asec training.

“Hong Kong is not a country. It is a Special Administrative Region – hence Hong Kong SAR,” Ong wrote.

He also hit Duterte’s close relations with China.

“As to the Philippines, your boss wants to make it part of China. Not sure yet if we will be a colony, province, or SAR,” he said.

“Not correct to call his visit to Beijing a ‘state visit’. More accurate to call it a pet recognition journey,” he added.
