Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II claimed last Friday, February 24, that a drug convict’s wife’s car was ambushed and the incident was under investigation in Makati.

He was referring to Lalaine Madrigal Martinez, the wife of drug convict Noel Martinez. Aguirre said it was Lalaine who informed him of the effort to bribe high-profile inmates into retracting their statements against Senator Leila De Lima with an offer of P100 million.

“Ito pong asawa si Lalaine Madrigal Martinez ‘yan po ay tumatawag po sa ‘kin yung mga pangangailangan at complaints kaya hindi po katakataka na ipagbigay po ito sa akin. Asawa ito ni Noel Martinez, isa doon sa nakakulong sa AFP,” Aguirre said.
“Actually ngayong umaga lang po in-ambush po ang kanyang sasakyan na inimbestigahan ngayon sa Makati,” he added.
However, Makati City Police Chief Sr. Supt. Dionesio Bartolome denied any ambush incident happening on Friday morning in Makati, in contrast to Aguirre’s claims. This was reported by dzRH on their website.
GMA News Online also talked to SPO1 Alberto de Guzman of the Makati PNP via phone interview, who said that there was no report of the ambush as of 9:30am on February 24.
