Busted: Mocha credit grabbing? NAIA Terminal 1 makeover was almost complete in 2015

Entertainer and Die-hard Duterte Supporter (DDS) Mocha Uson has made it her mission to showcase what President Rodrigo Duterte has done within his first 100 days. In her October 7 post, she uploaded a photo of NAIA Terminal 1 and captioned it “Experience huge improvement at NAIA Terminal 1 #100DaysOfChange.”

Mocha Credit Grabbing NAIA Terminal

Some netizens accused her of credit grabbing and urged her to give credit to where credit is due. Even her comments section was filled with requests for her to get her facts straight, knowing full well how impossible it is to accomplish such a feat within 100 days.

Former presidential spokesperson Abigal Valte posted facts countering Uson’s post. She said that the NAIA Terminal 1’s first rehabilitation was almost completed in March 2015. She even shared a photo that she first posted on Facebook on March 3, 2015 when she was one of the government officials who conducted the inspection at the airport terminal.

Twitter user @mila_d_aguilar also compiled photos uploaded by Valte during the same inspection, while slamming Uson for credit-grabbing.

Kat Usita, former technical and executive assistant at the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), also spoke up about the process of rehabilitating NAIA Terminal 1 in her Facebook video. She explained how then a 30-year-old building needed to be retrofitted, further delaying the rehabilitation and like Valte, she said that the improvements were almost complete in March 2015.

“This is no longer just about giving credit where credit is due; I don’t even mention the names of my ex-bosses in this video (nor in my previous video about Driver’s License Cards). This is about understanding the problems of government and the challenges of improving infrastructure in the Philippines,” Usita wrote.

The Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines also posted photos of the significant improvements to the terminal on March 7, 2015.

All these throwback photos proved that NAIA Terminal 1 has long been improved, even before Duterte became president. Yet, this did not seem to stop Uson from crediting such improvements to the president she supports unconditionally.

One of those who commented on her post was right – she’s free to talk about whatever she wants to talk about on her page, but she should be mindful of her impact on her followers, and thus be responsible in her social media posts.

“I respect your freedom of speech and your unconditional support for our president but please naman, your freedom of speech comes with the responsibility to tell the truth, especially since you are now a public figure with millions of followers,” Facebook user Adrian Cuenca said in his comment on Uson’s post about NAIA Terminal 1.

This is not the first time, though, that Uson was accused of credit grabbing. She earlier claimed that MRT coaches were finally assembled as Duterte’s promised solution to the traffic problems in the country’s capital. She even claimed it to be “good news” within Duterte’s first 50 days. But Facebook page “Daang Matuwid” corrected her, saying that those trains were ordered during PNoy’s administration, but were simply scheduled to be delivered during the current administration.
