Some Facebook pages rejoiced over the story that claimed former Senator Bongbong Marcos is finally going to replace Vice President Leni Robredo.
Duterte support page “Solid Team Duterte” happily spread the “good news” that has been allegedly “confirmed” as true. Its post even gained 3,000 shares!

Other Facebook pages, such as “Duterte “Ang Probinsiyano,”” “Tatay Digong Totoong Pagbabago,” and “Duterte News Online,” among others, are also spreading the same story.

The story was published by blogs like socialmediaph.info, dutertetrendnews.blogspot.com, du30newsfiles.blogspot.com, pinoybuzzfeed.com, and more.
However, we only found an 11-minute long YouTube video on these blogs. We watched the whole thing, but it turned out to be merely a combination of several news clips about Marcos’ election protest filed asking for a VP vote recount and the various parties eyeing to file an impeachment complaint against Robredo.

There is no truth at all to the title’s claim that Marcos will now replace Robredo, nor is there any confirmation about that replacement. In fact, in one of the news clips, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said that Marcos can only replace Robredo as VP if he wins his electoral protest. He added that if Robredo successfully gets impeached, President Rodrigo Duterte may choose from among the Senate President, House Speaker, or Chief Justice the next VP based on the line of succession indicated in the Philippine Constitution. Duterte may also pick from among the lawmakers in the Senate or House of Representatives.
Marcos’ VP poll protest is still being heard. The Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) has ordered Marcos to pay P66.2 million for the retrieval of election materials involved in his electoral protest against Robredo. On the other hand, PET also required Robredo to pay P15.6 million for 31,278 precincts. Both can arrangement their payments to be made on installment basis.
This means that there is no way the Facebook pages’ and blogs’ claims that it is confirmed that Marcos will replace Robredo as VP are true! The title was likely created as such to mislead people and it seemed to be working, based on the thousands of shares the story has gained on Facebook alone.
