Marcos fan page “Kilusang Bagong Lipunan” shared an article from Hataw Tabloid claiming that before the 2016 elections, Vice President Leni Robredo bought a bed worth P700,000. The page then slammed Robredo for her opulent lifestyle and for pretending to be “poor” when she is actually a part of the elite.

We tried searching for other articles about this claim and found this April 18 Facebook post by Robredo’s eldest daughter, Aika, addressing the issue about the extremely expensive bed.

“Because of Mama’s rise in the surveys and because of her excellent performances in the previous debates, we were told to brace ourselves for black propaganda,” she said.
“I’ve read an article this morning that says we have a 700,000-peso bed, which I found hilarious because, lels, kasing mahal na ng kotse,” she added.
Aika also addressed the rumors involving her mother’s “romantic life.”
“But this wins article of the day. Siguro ‘pag wala talagang masabi sa kandidato namin, ginagawan na lang ng issue,” Aika said.
But she dares everyone to brin on the rumors knowing that they are ready for anything.
“Siguro ‘pag wala talagang masabi sa kandidato namin, ginagawan na lang ng issue. So bring it on, mammon. We are ready. Ang laban ni Leni ay laban nating lahat,” she added.
Journalist Raissa Robles also wrote a fact-checking article about the 700,000-peso bed.
She cited how the tabloid article claimed the Robredo bought the bed from Shangri-la Mall and that it was a Frank Judson Safari Bed Frame from the London Bed Company.

Robles wrote that she asked Robredo about the controversial bed, who replied:
“Haha. Posted it nga on my facebook wall. I said kahit P70,000, di ako bibili. Anyone is invited to our condo here in QC and our house in Naga to check.”
