Busted: Lascañas wants to leave PH for good and drop accusations against Duterte? Hoax alert!

Retired SPO3 Arturo Lascañas is allegedly trying to put his life back to normal by compromising with President Rodrigo Duterte and leaving the Philippines to forget about everything.

The problem with this story is that it came from an unreliable source, the fake news site Okd2.com, which we have busted so many times already.

Still, when someone shared that story to the Duterte fan page “Rody Duterte Solid,” it still gained almost 200 shares and over 400 comments from people who seemed to believe the story to be true.

Okd2.com named Lascañas’ alleged legal counsel, a certain Atty. Soledad Salgado, as the person who relayed the former police officer’s desire to leave the country and drop his accusations against Duterte. This lawyer Salgado was said to have revealed that Lascañas is tired of facing the media, of the pressure to follow various people’s orders, and of his confusion in making a decision. Okd2.com further claimed that Salgado already reached out to Duterte’s legal department and is waiting for their response to Lascañas’ compromise.

Okd2.com also noted that Lascañas’ another change of heart could “weaken” Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s accusations against Duterte.

However, it was easy to spot the glitch in the story once you read it. The self-confessed Davao Death Squad member does not have a lawyer with that name, though so it seems like the fake news site has pulled one of its oldest tricks – to make up people’s names.

Rappler even wrote an article about Lascañas’ veteran lawyers from the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG), which include Jose Manuel Diokno, Alexander Padilla, and Arno Sanidad. Did you see any “Soledad Salgado” in that short list? Nope.

Google Salgado’s name with Lascañas and the only relevant article you will find is the story from Okd2.com. You won’t see any other articles naming Salgado as Lascañas’ lawyer at all, further proving that she was a fictional character from the mind of the Ok2d.com writers.

So no, Lascañas is not compromising with Duterte by dropping his accusations linking the President to the DDS or is wishing to leave the country. It’s a story made up by the fake news site Okd2.com. Despite how interesting the story is, it’s a hoax!
