Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe allegedly advised President Rodrigo Duterte not to pay any attention to “unnecessary noise distraction” from his rivals and focus instead on generating projects for the common Filipinos. He reportedly made the remarks in the midst of Japan government pledging to give Philippines support one the Duterte administration’s infrastructure plans.

But the story raised doubts as to its veracity, considering that it came from what Meme Buster has found out to be a fake news site called cnnnews-channel.com.
The website, possibly in an effort to make its story more believable, even included a direct quote, allegedly from Abe. It said, “… ignore ‘frogs noise’, focus on your citizens.”

Aside from the fact that the website did not know how to put the punctuation marks in the right place in the direct quote above, it seemed like Abe did not utter those words himself. Proof? We tried to Google what other websites possibly carried Abe’s alleged remarks against Duterte’s opposition, but we couldn’t find any, except from the fake news site cnnnews-channel.com. Look!
And the presence of other hoaxes among the website’s list of published articles did not help build its case either of being something other than a fake news site. Its About Us page did not claim that it was a satirical website, so there was no other way to categorize it aside from it being a fake source of news.
So, Abe certainly did not tell Duterte to “ignore frogs noise.” It was merely a story born out of the cnnnews-channel.com writer’s imagination. However, this did not stop one Facebook user from sharing the fake news to other Duterte supporters. Hopefully, those who got wind of the hoax will also get wind of the story debunking it.
